Code Repairs & Pressure-System Work

Pressure piping, pressure vessels, and other pressure-retaining systems require more than a field weld when applicable code, inspection, testing, and documentation requirements are involved.

Mechanical construction inside a refinery, terminal, chemical plant, or related process facility has to operate within the facility's process-safety systems and work procedures.

DePue routinely coordinates its mechanical work within PSM, permit, isolation, and Management of Change requirements established by the facility. Existing refineries and process facilities rarely provide a clean, empty construction area. New piping and equipment have to fit around operating systems, structural steel, existing pipe racks, equipment access, maintenance clearances, other trades, and shutdown constraints.

Project Experience: Adhesives Chemical Refinery

Real project experience shows how these capabilities come together inside operating process facilities. At an adhesives chemical refinery, DePue was tasked with setting three large pieces of process equipment while normal plant operations continued.

The installation required careful planning around equipment weight, access, staging, and existing facility conditions. DePue coordinated weekend staging and plated the floor to support the equipment movement before completing the final equipment sets without interrupting plant operations.

Project Experience: Biofuel Plant Boiler & High-Pressure Steam System

At a biofuel production facility in Hennepin, Illinois, DePue supported a major energy project involving Boiler 5, steam and condensate piping, condensate-polisher skids, feedwater pumps, chemical-treatment systems, structural support, and a large high-pressure steam-distribution header.

A major part of the scope was the fabrication and installation of a 20-inch Schedule 60 carbon-steel steam header incorporating expansion loops and cold-spring adjustments. Equipment setting also included feedwater pumps weighing approximately 30,000 pounds.

The project demonstrates DePue's ability to combine large-bore pressure piping, code welding, equipment setting, plant utilities, heavy lifts, and mechanical integration inside a constrained renewable-energy facility.

Project Experience: Industrial Natural-Gas Main Upgrade

At an industrial facility in Marseilles, Illinois, the existing 2-inch underground natural-gas line could no longer provide the gas volume required as furnace and production demand increased.

DePue replaced the undersized line with a 4-inch main gas line and fabricated much of the new piping in our in-house shop before field installation.

The completed upgrade provided the increased gas capacity required to support the facility's production needs while demonstrating the value of combining industrial utility piping with in-house prefabrication.

Project Experience: Process & Utility Piping at Daubert Chemical

At Daubert Chemical's Chicago facility, DePue installed stainless-steel process piping, carbon-steel steam and condensate systems, valves, instrumentation, equipment, and tie-ins to existing plant systems while the facility remained operational.

The work included 316L stainless process piping, carbon-steel steam and condensate piping, instrumentation and valve installation, pump setting, and removal of more than 100 feet of existing elevated piping.

The project was completed within a 3–4 week timeline, with testing performed using plant air or nitrogen and safety coordination covering LOTO, line isolation, and tie-in procedures.
