Equipment Setting & Structural Steel Fabrication Services for Industrial Facilities, Skid Fabrication, Industrial Piping
2025 (multi-phase)
Batavia, Illinois
This was not a “run pipe and go home” job. The client needed disciplined coordination across multiple phases, congested mechanical spaces, and mission-critical equipment—where shortcuts become long-term problems.
DePue led the mechanical scope to build out the cryogenic piping network through the compressor and coldbox areas—supporting warm, high, low, and very-low pressure compressor systems, along with supporting skids and outdoor vaporizer arrays (so the distribution loop comes together as one system).
This included:
- Stainless and carbon steel piping fabrication and installation
- Compressor room and coldbox room routing, supports, and integration
- Compressor tie-ins (warm, high, low, and very low pressure)
- Recovery system integration and connections to outdoor vaporizer arrays
- Support equipment connections:
-Oil removal skid
- Lube skid
- Ambient vaporizers with management skid
- Coldbox vessel and regeneration skid tie-ins
1) Coordination-First Planning:
Before fabrication and install ramped up, we aligned routing, supports, and tie-in sequencing so installation stayed clean and rework stayed off the table.
2) Fabrication Discipline:
Our fabrication and installation approach prioritized consistent fit-up, flange alignment, accessibility for maintenance, and support details that hold up in real operating conditions.
3) Tie-ins That Complete the System:
Tie-ins were executed to bring compressors, recovery systems, outdoor vaporizers, and supporting skids into a single functional distribution loop—not a collection of disconnected runs.
On mission-critical work, “looks good” isn’t a quality plan. We focus on repeatable procedures, verification points, and documentation that supports turnover and long-term maintenance.
Weld documentation: Internal weld tracking and records maintained for critical welds
Verification: Checks on tie-ins, flange-ups, supports, and mechanical completeness
Coordination: Daily alignment with stakeholders to keep multi-phase work moving
PIP-II is a major upgrade effort at Fermilab, supporting long-term accelerator capabilities tied to future research programs.
For DePue, this project demonstrates what we’re built for:
- mission-critical piping scope leadership
- high-expectation quality and documentation
- coordination that keeps multi-phase work moving

Do you fabricate and install stainless and carbon steel piping in-house?
Yes—our team supports fabrication, installation, and tie-ins for stainless and carbon steel piping scopes, with documentation practices built for clear turnover and maintenance support.
How do you manage quality and weld traceability on critical piping projects?
We use controlled procedures, verification checkpoints, and weld documentation practices designed to support accountability—especially on scopes where rework is not an option.
Can you coordinate multi-phase mechanical scopes around mission-critical equipment?
Yes. We plan routing and tie-in sequencing around access constraints, project phasing, and stakeholder coordination so the work progresses cleanly.
The client is preparing for a future accelerator upgrade and needs a full-scale cryogenic system that spans multiple phases and mission-critical equipment. The ask is tight coordination and clean execution from compressors to coldbox with no shortcuts.
Mechanical Scope: Fabricate and install stainless and carbon steel piping across compressor and coldbox rooms
Tie-ins: Compressors, recovery systems, and outdoor vaporizer arrays
Supporting Equipment Connected: Oil removal and lube skids, ambient vaporizers with a management skid, and a coldbox vessel anchoring the distribution loop
Systems Installed: Helium, nitrogen, instrument air, and chilled water
